It's about a man who goes out to a horse selling. He gets there late and finds that the beat up horses are left and he sees this one horse that is complete beat up. He buys it and soon finds out that he is a champion.

From Amazon:

Here is the dramatic and inspiring rise to stardom of an unlikely duo, based on the insight and recollections of “the Flying Dutchman” himself. Their story captured the heart of Cold War–era America—a story of unstoppable hope, inconceivable dreams, and the chance to have it all.

Elizabeth Letts’s message is simple: Never give up, even when the obstacles seem sky-high. There is something extraordinary in all of us.

This book is about a horse named Snowman. His breed is unknown. This story tells about the heartwarming tale of Snowman and his owner, Harry De Leyer, as they compete in huge jumping competitions. Snowman and Harry have done crazy stunts, but this book is amazing, I've read it five thousand times and it never gets old! Snowman was a show jumping horse during the Great Depression and he is called the Cinderella horse. If you're super super super horse crazy this is a book you NEED to read! This book is by Elizabeth Letts.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. I am bugging Sydney to read it ;). I know she won't want to read the chapter about some of the abuse that has happened with horses - that part is really hard. But the book itself is a great read.

The Eighty-dollar Champion
by: Reina

The Eighty Dollar Champion by Elizabeth Letts is about a horse named Snowman. You see hardly anybody knew the story of Snowman until this author wrote it.

It's about a Dutch immigrant and his family. One day he sees a horse going off to be slaughtered with 14 other horses, but there was a spark in the gelding's eye. After, that the horse, a 8 year old who only drove plows and didn't carry people, becomes one of the top jumpers among Thoroughbreds and other horses alike. Snowman inspired our nation in 1958 and Henry de Leyer his owner, who also was a riding instructor at the Knox School next to Long Island Sound.

This book is surely to bring you right into the story. The book is surely one of books you never want to put down. I'm still reading it. I'm on chapter 4 and the book is over 200 pages with small print and pictures of Henry de Leyer, his family, and of course....... Snowman.
