Horse Story

How did you make your costume?
Buzz lightyear (me!) - this was mostly made with my Cricut. I made the whole shirt with Cricut files, bought the gloves at dollar tree, headwear on amazon, and decided to make good use out of my white breeches. I also sewed the waistband.
My wings are foamboard, paint, and velcro'd to my shirt
Pizza Planet truck/Alien (grey horse) - the "truck" is all felt, Cricut files, and fabric paint. The "rocket" is foam board, Cricut files, hot glue, velcro, and prayers haha. His alien bonnet is hand crocheted with ping pong balls as the eyes
Woody - shirt from Good Will and I drew on sharpie lines and safety pinned buttons. The vest I sewed myself and used Cricut for the Sherriff badge and the rest is borrowed from friends
Slinky dog (chestnut horse) - his ears and collar are felt. His "slinky" is 30 yards of hollow silver roping that i found on Amazon. Not pictured but he even has a tail made with a notebook spring and felt.
Sheep - cotton balls, felt, and hot glue
Bo Peep (bay horse) - her skirt is made of felt, fleece, and tulle sewn together and polka dots hot glued. Her bonnet is felt, posterboard, lace ribbon with elastic attached to slip over her halter crown piece. Her cane is a deconstructed candy cane from the dollar store.
How much did it cost (approximately is OK)?
For all 6 costumes, I'm going to guess less than $100. We tried to use as much as what we already had from previous costumes and my endless hoard of craft supplies
Where did you wear it?
Our farm's annual Halloween parade. It's always a fun event and we love doing it as adults in the hopes the kids at our farm will have fun with it too!
How did people react?
This is our 4th year as a big group costume and with less time than we usually have to prepare after a busy competition summer with all of us traveling to the American Eventing Championships in Kentucky, reactions were impressed as usual but even more impressed given the time we started.
What is your horse’s name and how did it react?
Sully (big grey) doesn't have a care in the world and he loves dressing up!
Lulu (little bay mare) is also used to this and we were hoping her bonnet made her keep her ears forward.
Meatball (chestnut) can be emotional but in his 4th year dressing up he's gotten quite tolerant. We did test his slinky ahead of time to make sure he was comfortable!
