Horse In The Hat

If you are looking for some easy horse Halloween costume ideas, this one is a great option! Here Ananda explains how she created it:

Our costume is from a Dr. Seuss classic, Cat In The Hat. Or as we put it, Horse In The Hat. My friend and I posed as Horse In The Hat’s sidekicks, Thing 1 and Thing 2. My 2 year old Cinder was Cat In The Hat and is very tolerant of our antics, it’s adorable.

It was super convenient that our red halter still fits her because it matches the costume perfectly. My friend and I have always wanted to dress up as Thing 1 and Thing 2 and Cinder made the perfect Cat In The Hat. The hats bottom was cardboard so we were able to cut holes for the halter to make the hat secure. And I was very happy with Cinder because not only did she not care about her hat, she wasn't spooked by our glittery afros.

How did you come up with your costume idea?
My friend Jaelyn wanted to dress up Thing 1 and Thing 2 for Halloween. I'm not quite sure how I thought of it but I suddenly realized that we could make hat for Cinder and have the most hilarious costume!

How did you make it?
We bought red leggings and T-shirts and then cut and sewed a white fabric circle onto the shirts after writing "Thing 1" and "Thing 2". For the hat I covered it in red fabric and then cu out a strip if white for the stripe. The brim is just a painted cardboard circle which made i perfect to cut holes and mount to the halter. For our crazy hair we took blue tinsel and pinned it to our beanies.

How much does it cost?
The costume only cost us $26 because we had all the other material at home.

Where did you wear it?
We wore out costumes to a dress up bachelorette party.

How did people react?
People thought our costume was very funny and well put together. They especially loved our hair and the fact hat we had Cinder play Cat In The Hat.

How did your horse like it?
Cinder was totally fine with every element of the costume. She did not mind the hat and was not spooked by the glittery hair or anything! I am super impressed with her attitude as she is only 2!
