This costume was thought up for our Mid Rivers Saddle Club event held at the National Equestrian Center in Lake St Louis Mo. We needed something to amaze people and top our last years costume.
Last year we did Miss Muffet and the Itsy Bitsy Spider, it has since been posted all over the internet so you may have seen it. This year to top that I tried to think of something that was different that had not been seen before and that would at the same time be safe for the rider the horse and other participants- we came up with this idea and used pvc pipe (since light weight) painted it chrome in color, used swim noodles for tires and shocks, shoe boxes for headers, cardboard tubing for tailpiles lots of velcro, paint and lots of hairspray and patience.
Our horse is amazing, he lets us do pretty much anything to him and is fine with it- so we are super lucky there. People were shocked again this year, they could not believe that Rango let us do all this to him and just walked calmly around the show arena, the other horses didn't seem freaked out and our rider had a blast being silly with her 3 foot spike hairdoo!
They clinched first place with a unanimous decision by the judges, now our only problem is coming up with next years costume! There were lots of great costumes in this event and one that we look forward to showing in every year. Horse shows and costume contests need to be advertised and appreciated more, as these kids and their horses are simply amazing together.
