Ariel: The First Guardian
Are you looking for a romantic fantasy involving horses? Then you may want to check out "Ariel: The First Guardian" by Sydney Scrogham. It is one of the prequels to her book
Chase, which I reviewed before.
This adventurous book details Ariel's journey with acceptance and rediscovering love. She does this by going on a journey with her ex-boyfriend (Ryan Tracey) to save her animal companion. But nothing goes as planned...
I don't want to give away too much about the book, but if you remember from Chase, we were introduced to Ariel through her journal. Throughout the book, the reader gets to travel back to the mythical world of Agalrae, and spend time with the Alicorns once again. But if you have not read Chase, don’t worry. You can read this book and you won’t be lost.
Ariel is well-written, has a good pace, is a good length and is a book that will stay with you for a long time. It’s a story of love and second chances. Best of all, the author loves happy endings as much as I do!
She says that Ariel is for anyone who:
- Wants a fast-paced romantic fantasy with strong characters, real-life issues, and a happy ending;
- Enjoyed The Chronicles of Narnia, The Scorpio Races, and the voice of Maximum Ride;
- Experienced an unfair breakup;
- Owns or would like to own a horse
This book does deal with some mature themes (Ariel has suffered abuse) and therefore is recommended for mature/young adults. (I learned from the author there is a new genre called "new adult," with protagonists age 18 - 30. This book falls into that category.)
Watch My Interview With Sydney ScroghamI had the chance to interview the author on a Blab with Rebecca Salamone from Southern Horse Talk and you can watch our conversation here:
We have a great conversation about the book, and we also talk about writing fiction. She started writing when she was twelve years old! And she’s generous with her advice for our readers who love to write about horses. She talks about writing, her process, the publishing industry, and she has a free resource to help you. So if you are a writer (or want to be), make sure you watch our conversation above and be sure to check out her new book, Ariel.
